Cochrane Integrated Arts Society and Seniors on the Bow are presenting a beading workshop, Sunday, November 20th from 1:00-4:30pm, led by Stoney Nakoda Nation Elders Pauline and J.R Twoyoungmen.
Pauline and her beading artist friends will teach the participants to bead a pin to wear on one’s shirt or coat. The subject of the pin will be an Indigenous symbol to represent your support of the planned Indigenous Centre in Cochrane.
Participants will learn in small groups, each led by a beading artist from our community, as an opportunity to get to know each other and form friendships with our First Nations neighbours. Youth aged 14-17 and adults are all invited to register for this wonderful afternoon of art and friendship.
Following the workshop, there will be a social time with Elder J. R. Twoyoungmen. J.R. is a retired schoolteacher and had a vital role in the Stoney Cultural Education Program from 1971-1975. He loves to continue teaching contemporary history and kindly answers our questions.
Join us as we learn to bead, get to know our neighbours and hear about the planned Indigenous Centre programs and how we can be allies. Click here to register for the Stoney Nakoda Beading Workshop.
