January is here and so is the new set of CIAS Arts Courses for adults and youth! We are so excited to be finally moving to in-person courses held at the Seniors on the Bow auditorium which provides lots and lots of room to keep our participants widely COVID distanced.
We are kicking off with Break Into Acting on January 17. With the film industry getting busier all the time in Alberta, people often wonder what it would be like to be on set in a background role, but they have no idea who to ask or how to get information. Break into Acting answers all of those questions and provides an opportunity to practice auditioning and get feedback from professional actor, Garry MacLean.
Weaving Words: A Writers’ Workshop starts January 19. New writers really appreciate the safe and supportive group where they can discuss their writing ideas and learn from the guided writing activities and feedback. Charlotte Nixon’s enthusiasm, experience and teaching stye are inspirational to all.
Just in case COVID regulations change to stop in-person activities altogether, we have scheduled these two courses as well as Beginner Photography, Beginner Photographic Composition, and Write On! in the first few months as they can easily pivot to online format.
The visual art courses Linocut Printmaking, Acrylic Landscape Painting and Animal Drawing are placed later as they really need to be carried out in-person. We are eager to finally hold our Linocut Printmaking course that was delayed for so long due to COVID!
We are also very pleased to announce our newest instructor, Marla Blackwell! Marla is well known as a painting instructor in the Cochrane and Calgary area. The first course Marla will teach for CIAS is Acrylic Landscape Painting.
